Anyone who enjoys architecture, modernism and the work of Oscar Niemeyeer in particular will love the Grande Hotel in Ouro Preto. We stayed in one of the superior suites and the design of the loft room and stunning view of Ouro Preto was well worth the money. We also tried some of the Mineiro food on the menue and were impressed with the quality as well as the service. Again, there is no other restaurant that offers such a view of the city and surrounding mountains. We would not hesitate to stay at this hotel again.
Some of the fixtures and paint are getting a little dated and while one would not want to loose the mid century style, a bit of a renovation would improve the appearance of the hotel.

Great location near good restaurants, with period furniture and friendly staff. Good Brazilian breakfast, comfortable beds, and spacious rooms with fantastic views of the city.
Poor maintenance, outdated amenities , and a lack of handicap provisions. The spiral staircases leading to the upper level were unnecessarily dangerous and impractical, and the outdated Wi-Fi hardly worked.

We stayed at a hotel in the heart of the city center, close to shops and restaurants. the breakfast was good, with plenty of variety. the room was comfortable with a modern bathroom, and the staff was friendly and accommodating. the hotel also had a pool which was appreciated after a hot day of sightseeing.
The free Wi-Fi left something to be desired, often slow or not working.
